Not only does water cover a large part of the earth’s surface, it also accounts for 60% of the human body. The access to safe drinking water and sanitation has therefore been recognised as a human right by the United Nations.

While access to safe drinking water is a standard in most Western countries, that’s not the case for many countries worldwide, especially in Latin America, Asia and Africa. Many diseases are caused by polluted water. In the region of Kigoma, Tanzania, cholera outbreaks are still occurring due to contaminated drinking water.
