ABOUT THE WHAT AND HOW

We believe that every man, woman & child should have access to clean water. This is not a privilege, but a human right.
‘Maji safi na salama’, safe water for everybody.

THE WATER CRISIS

The access to safe drinking water and sanitation has been recognised as a human right by the United Nations in 2010.
While access to safe drinking water is a standard in most Western countries, that’s not the case for many countries worldwide, especially in Latin America, Asia and Africa. Several diseases like cholera, dysentery or typhoid are caused by contamination.

THE WATERFILTER

Water can be purified from microbial contamination by using local resources. Our water filter is produced at a local site in Tansania by our local Waterpreneurs
and then sold for a fair price. The basic materials for the production of the filter are sawdust, clay and silver nitrate.
After the production process, this filter has a purifying quality of over 99,9%.
Our Waterpreneurs also hold workshops, presentations and offer value-added services such as maintenance and technical support.

THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND THE IDEA

Simple concepts are sometimes most effective to solve complex problems.
Only four materials are needed to produce our two-part water filter system: Clay, sawdust, water and silver nitrate. Except silver nitrate, these resources can be sourced locally anywhere in the world.
Our production process starts by shredding clay and sawdust into small particles, which we then mix together with water. This mixture is then pressed into a filter form and dried for several days. The filter gets burned for 10 hours, burning out the organic material and leaving behind micropores, giving the products is purifying quality.
To complete the production a small but sufficient amount of silver nitrate is applied.
In order to guarantee a high filter quality, our filtration quality has already been repeatedly tested and is certified by the Tanzania Ministry of Water.

THE BUSINESS MODEL

The very foundation of our business model is its economical feasibility ensuring sustainable change in the long term.
Our local Waterpreneur, Adolf Yanda, fabricates the water filters locally in our own production facility.
This local business reaches break-even when selling 25 filter sales per month, enabling a fair salary for our waterpreneurs and creating small reserves for irregular expenses.
Building relationships to local institutions and businesses is crucial to drive the growth of our business. Leveraging contacts to local and international NGOs enables us to further accelerate the diffusion of our solution.
